Scars Into Stars (“SIS”) is committed to protecting your privacy and the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes the kind of information we collect from you, how that information is used, and what kind of security measures we employ. We do not sell, share, or otherwise disclose the information you provide to us other than as described in this Privacy Policy. TYPES OF INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT

When you view or access our website (the “Site”), you do so anonymously. We do not collect personal information that identifies you unless you specifically and voluntarily provide us with that information.

SIS may request information from you at various points on the Site and during offline activities. You are under no obligation to provide any information. However, to participate in some of the services we offer at SIS, such information collection is necessary. Below is a brief summary of the information we typically collect from you and how it is used.

Clients: When you contact us to seek services, we ask you to provide us with your name, telephone number, physical address, e-mail address, and emergency contact. We use this information in connection with the services we provide to you.

Volunteers: When you become a volunteer for SIS, we ask you to provide us with your name, telephone number, physical address, e-mail address, and emergency contact. We use this information to populate our volunteer database and to contact you in connection with volunteer activities. To keep volunteers updated on our services, events, and activities, we may send updates via electronic communications and postal mail.

Donors: When you give an online financial donation to SIS, we ask you to provide us with your name, telephone number, mailing address, e-mail address, and credit card information. We will not use your credit card information except for purposes related to your donation transaction or as required by law. Your credit card information is sent directly to our payment provider who processes your online donation. The credit card information is neither recorded nor stored by SIS, and it can only be accessed by our payment provider. Specifically, your credit card details are sent directly to our payment providers over a secure industry-standard encrypted connection. They are not processed on our servers at any stage of the transaction. Donations received via postal mail to SIS are also processed by a secure third-party vendor. To keep donors updated on our services, events, and activities, we may send updates via electronic communications and postal mail.

If you are receiving electronic communications from SIS and wish to no longer hear from us, you may let us know that through the “unsubscribe” link in our electronic communications. You may unsubscribe from postal mailings at any time by emailing elizabeth@scarsintostarsinc.com.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

We will use the information you provide to us only for the purpose for which such information was provided. We may also use such information to: (a) verify the information provided to us; (b) provide you with information you have requested; (c) respond to your inquiries; (d) contact you when necessary; and (e) send you information about us, including information related to our services or programs.

Except as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy, we will keep the information you provide to us private and will not share it with third parties, unless such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with the law or legal process served on us; (b) provide you the products, services, and/or information that you may have requested; (c) protect our rights or property; (d) enforce our rights; (e) protect the interests of users of the Site or any other person; (f) detect, prevent and/or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, as authorized by law; and/or (g) otherwise comply with applicable laws.

SIS does not sell, share, or otherwise disclose the information you provide to us other than as described in this Privacy Policy.

COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

When you visit the Site, you may be issued a “cookie,” which helps track your session while online. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive. Among other things, cookies help to make your site visit more relevant and personalized for you. We use cookies to see which areas and features are popular and to count visits to the Site. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. If you would prefer, you may set your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent; however, it is possible that some parts of the Site will not function properly if you do so.

PRIVACY OF CHILDREN

The Site is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. SIS does not intend to collect, maintain, store, use, or disclose personal information about children under the age of 13.

SECURITY

SIS has security measures in place intended to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. We use industry standard encryption when collecting information from you, and we take reasonable steps to safeguard the information we collect from unauthorized access or disclosure and accidental loss or alteration. Only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our clients, volunteers, and donors. Any other particularly sensitive information, such as a donor’s credit card number, is also encrypted prior to transmission.

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from the Site, and you do so at your own risk. NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES

We may change our Privacy Policy at any time by updating this posting. Changes to our Privacy Policy will be effective when posted. Unless otherwise agreed, we will use information you provide to us in accordance with the Privacy Policy under which the information was collected. Your continued use of the Site following notice of changes by e-mail or via a notice displayed in the software or on the Site will mean you accept and agree to those changes.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS

California residents may request information concerning the categories of personal information (if any) we disclose to third parties or affiliates for their direct marketing purposes.

In addition, as a California resident:

  • You have the right to request information access to personal information for free up to twice per year. Upon receiving an access request, we will provide the necessary information in a friendly format within 45 days of your request.

  • You have the right to ask for your data to be deleted.

  • You have the right not to be discriminated against for having exercised your rights under California Consumer Privacy Act.
